On January 22, 2026, our consortium gathered online for its fourth General Assembly. As we officially enter the final year of our project, the focus has shifted from exploration to consolidation, scaling, and validation.
Following our physical meeting in Kokkola last June, this session was held 100% online. The agenda was tight and efficient, dedicated to reviewing the status of all Work Packages and ensuring every partner is aligned for the critical milestones ahead.
With the finish line in sight, the consortium focused on one clear objective: ensuring our sustainable battery material technologies are ready for demonstration.
Strategic alignment & exploitation
The session opened with a focus on coordination (WP1) and, crucially, Communication, Dissemination, and Exploitation (WP8).
Presenting this early in the agenda highlights our shift in priority: as our technical results mature, our energy is increasingly directed toward ensuring these innovations reach the market and key stakeholders. The final year will be pivotal for maximizing the impact of the STREAMS project within the European battery value chain.
Technical progress: from precursors to pouch cells
The core of the assembly was dedicated to technical status updates, covering the entire value chain:
- Precursor Production (WPs 2, 3, 4, 5): Partners presented progress on the processing and production of critical materials. This included updates on resources pre-processing (WP2), followed by deep dives into the production processes for Lithium precursors (WP3), Transition metals (WP4), and Graphite and Silicon precursors (WP5). The emphasis is now on optimising these processes for yield and quality.
- Validation (WP6): A key milestone for this year is moving from material synthesis to tangible proof of concept. The updates on characterization and electrochemical testing confirmed that we are advancing toward testing in pouch cells, a critical step to prove industrial viability.
Sustainability as a constant
The day concluded with a focus on Sustainability, Risk, and Circularity assessments (WP7). As we scale our production processes, validating their environmental footprint remains a top priority to ensure STREAMS delivers truly green solutions.
Looking ahead
The transition into the final year marks a change in gear for the STREAMS project. The online format allowed for a concise, “all-business” review of our roadmap. We leave this assembly with a clear view of the remaining tasks and a renewed commitment to delivering on our promise of strengthening Europe’s battery strategic autonomy!
