STREAMS took part in the 2025 edition of the Battery Innovation Days (BID), held on 2–3 December in Graz, Austria. Organised by Battery2030+, the Batteries European Partnership Association (BEPA) and the Batteries IPCEIs, the event gathered Europe’s leading battery researchers, innovators, policymakers and industrial actors to discuss the latest developments in materials science, cell innovation, recycling and Europe’s long-term zero-emission objectives.
STREAMS showcased at the F6S Innovation booth
STREAMS was presented at the F6S Innovation booth, which also featured two other Horizon Europe projects supported by the organisation:
- HighMag, focused on novel sustainable processes to recover high-purity magnesium and other materials,
- HyLiST, developing innovative solutions for hybrid lithium storage technologies.
Together, these projects represent different parts of the European effort to improve circularity, material recovery and next-generation battery innovation.
Throughout the event, STREAMS partners highlighted the project’s progress toward flexible, scalable and sustainable production technologies for battery precursors and active materials derived from both primary and secondary sources. Visitors could learn more about how STREAMS contributes to strengthening Europe’s domestic battery materials supply chain while supporting EU objectives in circularity and strategic resilience.
Why BID is important for STREAMS
Battery Innovation Days is one of the few European events that brings together the entire battery ecosystem: from upstream raw materials and sustainable production processes to recycling, industrialisation, policy and regulation. For a project like STREAMS, this makes BID a critical platform for collaboration and alignment with evolving European priorities.
Participating in BID enabled STREAMS to:
- present its latest technological developments to a wide European audience,
- engage with researchers and industry actors working on complementary innovations,
- explore potential synergies for future pilot-scale demonstrations,
- and reinforce its role within Europe’s sustainable and circular battery materials landscape.
Insights from AIT: the value of engaging with Europe’s battery community
During the event, Yuri Surace from AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, the coordinating institution of STREAMS, shared his perspective on the value of participating in BID and engaging with Europe’s battery community.
His interview provides valuable insight into the strategic importance of participating in BID and how these interactions support the project’s impact.
Looking ahead
As STREAMS progresses toward its next milestones, the project will continue engaging with key European initiatives and events to disseminate results, explore collaboration opportunities and contribute to a more sustainable, resilient and competitive European battery value chain.
